You will hear people in the web marketing industry say the SEO is dead. It’s not dead at all, it’s just evolving and changing with what Google currently places importance on. It’s not easily tricked or “black hatted” any more and certainly takes time and effort, just like it always has.
Social Media is a HUGE part of your SEO piece of the puzzle.
Google looks at social proof that what you have on your website is of interest to the human people out there looking for things to read, use, buy etc.
So how do you get social signals pointing to you? You must first be “on” the best social media options for your type of business and then you need to be active on those and you must be creating great content. If you have a visual business then you’d best be creating “pinnable” images, putting them on your website and then pinning them on Pinterest. If you are a business consultant you need to be engaging on LinkedIn by asking and answering questions. You need to be on Facebook and Twitter. After those four it really depends on the type of business, but I tend to err on the side of getting on every new social media that comes along and claiming my business or personal name just in case that is the next one that goes viral.
Nobody thought that Pinterest would skyrocket like it did from the moment it was released in Beta to the official launch. Now entire books and seminars are put on for that single social media.
Having all of the parts of your website search friendly is still important, and is crucial to your Search Engine Optimization success, but social media has an equal share in the workload.

You don’t have to spend a TON of time on social media each day but you do need to spend SOME time at least every couple of days unless you already have all the business you can handle.
